After years in the Justice Department and a long run of traumatic incidents, Damian started to see the quiet toll it was taking on him and on his family. If you have been holding it together for everyone else and nothing has shifted it, his is the one to watch.

The Single Mum's Reset
You hold everyone together. But who is holding you?
There is rarely anywhere to put it. About 20 minutes of guided audio a day, and nothing to relive.

In short
- The Single Mum's Reset is a Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming program from MindShift Mentors.
- About 20 minutes of guided audio a day, recorded by Rob Edmonds, Strategic Psychotherapist.
- It helps with the guilt and the overwhelm, rather than asking you to find more time, more patience or more willpower than you have.
- You listen on your own, once the house is quiet.
- Not clinical treatment. It does not replace your doctor, and it is not a substitute for practical help.

Sound familiar
If you are holding everyone together and running on empty, you are in the right place
If you have ever sat in the car for an extra minute just to breathe before you walk back in, you are not failing and you are not the only one. When you are the one everyone relies on there is rarely anywhere to put the stress, the guilt and the mental load, so it stays in you and you stay in survival mode.
- Guilty for snapping, guilty for working, guilty for resting, guilty for wanting ten minutes.
- Everyone gets your best and you get to yourself on fumes.
- The house finally goes quiet and your mind picks that moment to list everything.
- You second guess decisions you would once have made without blinking.
- The mental load, the money, the logistics and the worry all sit with you.
- You snap, then cry about it once they have gone to bed.
- You are the one who holds everybody, and nobody is holding you.
- Underneath Mum there is a person you have not had room to be for years.
Left alone the load does not lighten on its own. It quietly costs you your health, your patience and the part of this you would actually rather be enjoying. Most women in this position have been running on willpower and caffeine for years, telling themselves they will rest later.
Why nothing has held
You have almost certainly tried most of this already
None of it is useless. It is just all aimed at the wrong layer.
-
Getting up earlier
You bought yourself an hour and paid for it with an hour of sleep. The list did not get shorter and you are more tired defending it.
-
A better system
The shared calendar, the meal plan, the app. They work while you have the capacity to run them, which is the thing you are short of.
-
Telling yourself to be grateful
You are grateful. That has never once stopped you lying awake at two in the morning, and the two are not related.
-
Venting to a friend
Worth having and worth keeping. It moves the feeling for an evening and it does not touch what generates it tomorrow.
-
Waiting for them to step up
Sometimes they should. It still leaves the one part of this you can actually move sitting there untouched.
-
Promising to rest when things calm down
They have not calmed down. That is not a scheduling problem, it is what this stage of life looks like.
You were never failing, and pushing harder was never going to fix it. The guilt and the overwhelm run below conscious thought, which is exactly where these sessions work.
Ten minutes, yours
Give yourself the ten minutes
Not a clip and not a preview. The whole session, and no sign up. Then decide whether the rest is worth it.

Once they are down, or in the car in the school pick up line. Ten minutes that belong to you and nobody has to be told about it.
Whatever you noticed just then was your own doing. The session is only the way in.

That is the whole thing. Nothing to organise and nobody to explain yourself to.

A nightly routine that works
“As a nurse and mom, I needed better sleep. Mindshift Mentors’ recordings help me relax and sleep deeply.”

Sleeping 7-8 hours again
“After years of struggling, I’m now getting full nights of sleep. Only 10 days into the audio. Thank you!”

Asleep before it ends
“I love the Mindshift Mentor recordings. I have long suffered a busy mind especially at night when the worry demons invade. If I can quiet my mind I quickly fall back asleep. I have tried so many things, psychologists, warm milk before bed, sliced turkey haha, yoga, warm shower/bath, journaling - you name it. However what has really helped is listening to these soothing guided meditations - I don’t know if I have actually made it to the end of one! I simply play them on my ipad before the mind starts and I’m out of it. Such a great find and the small investment has a big payday when i jump out of bed and aren’t tired during the day!”

Waking up with a relaxed jaw
“I had developed a really bad habit of clenching and grinding my teeth at night, especially during stressful periods. It was affecting my sleep and starting to impact my mood and energy levels. My brother Callan told me about Mindshift Mentors, so I decided to try their audio sessions. I didn’t know what to expect, but Rob’s voice is so calm and grounding, and the sessions just clicked with me. After a few nights of listening, I noticed a huge difference. I was waking up with a relaxed jaw and sleeping more deeply. If you’re struggling with nighttime jaw tension, I can’t recommend Mindshift Mentors highly enough. It’s made such a difference in my life.”

Blown away by the difference
“I had been grinding my teeth in my sleep for years, and nothing seemed to help, not even the expensive mouthguards. I was constantly waking up with jaw pain and headaches. A friend recommended Mindshift Mentors, and I started listening to their audio sessions. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but from the very first audio, something shifted. The way Rob explains things just made sense, and the sessions helped me let go of the tension I didn’t even realise I was holding. Honestly, I’m blown away. This approach is unlike anything I’ve tried.”

Finally waking up refreshed
“Rob’s hypnotherapy actually worked! I now fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake up refreshed.”

What it actually is
How Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming works
Traditional therapy tends to work on the story. This helps with what sits underneath it, where automatic habits and stress responses actually form.
Rob Edmonds explains the method, about six minutes
-
It skips the conscious chatter
No going over the argument and no talking it through. The session helps with the response that fires long before any of your reasoning gets a turn.
-
Nothing gets relived
You are not asked to go back into old hurt, which is why people who cannot face rehashing things can still do this.
-
Nothing to practise in the daytime
Strategic Psychotherapy and behavioural science combined. The whole of it happens while you are listening, so there are no exercises to keep up and nothing to remember during the day.
The program is built around 21 days of listening, one session a day. What people notice, and when, varies a lot, and we make no promise about either. If you want the method in full, here is how Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming works.

What is actually going on
Why it gets heavier after they have gone to sleep
Exhaustion has medical causes as well as practical ones. Thyroid problems, low iron, sleep disorders and depression all belong on that list, and if you have been flat for months it is worth a blood test before anything else. What follows is about one part of it: a nervous system that never gets told the shift has ended.
The story most women in this position tell themselves is that other mothers are coping better. They are not, in the main, and even where they are it is usually because more of it is being shared. What you are carrying is not a character test you are failing. It is a load with no handover, and loads without handovers do specific things to people.
Why does my brain switch on the moment I lie down?
Nothing has told your system the shift has ended.
- If your brain has learned that staying alert is what keeps everyone safe, it keeps doing it until it gets clear, repeated signals that it can stop.
- It does not take your word for it, and it does not accept "they are asleep now" as evidence.
- There is no off switch to find and no amount of tiredness that flips it.
- The alertness is doing its job. It has simply never been told the job is done.
Why do I feel guilty for holding a line?
Guilt is doing something, and left running it works against the exact thing it is trying to protect.
- You enforce a bedtime or say no, then spend the evening going over it. Was that too hard. Are they already carrying enough.
- That second guessing is one of the least talked about parts of parenting on your own, and it is nearly universal.
- Guilt that runs unchecked can push a parent toward giving in more than they meant to, just to make the discomfort stop.
- Worth knowing that pattern exists, not as one more thing to feel guilty about, but so the guilt is not quietly steering decisions it should not be.
Why is two in the morning the worst of it?
Replaying the day is not you processing it.
- Going back over the thing you said, the thing you should have said, the money, the appointment you have not made.
- Each pass makes the next one easier for your brain to start and harder for you to stop.
- Worry works on a mechanism that is almost unfair. Picture something going wrong in enough detail and the nervous system responds as though it is happening now.
- So an hour imagining next year's problem can cost you much the same as living through one, and repeated often enough it shows up in your sleep, digestion, energy and how steady you feel.
Where do the feelings I shelved go?
They accumulate rather than fade.
- Boxing things away to keep functioning is a defence, and a good one. It gets the lunches made on a morning you had no business being upright.
- Nothing wrong with it, until the temporary arrangement quietly becomes the permanent one.
- The early signs are ordinary enough to explain away. Restless nights, a shorter fuse than usual, concentration that is not what it was.
- The wall is not selective. It blocks the good ones on the way through, which is why the distance you feel from your own life is not a sign that you care less.
Why is handover so hard?
For the women it applies to, separation brings a particular kind of whiplash.
- In the same week you can be a full time parent and then alone in a too tidy living room, and both feel wrong.
- Handover is its own event. The cheerful goodbye at the door, then the car, then the crying once you are out of sight.
- Nobody warns you that the quiet house is not the peaceful kind of quiet.
- Separation sits near the top of most lists of the hardest things a person goes through, and you are doing it while worrying about how they are taking it.
What does this program actually do?
It helps with the guilt, the night time replaying and the self doubt.
- In a relaxed state, with nothing to retell and nobody to explain yourself to.
- About 20 minutes a day and pressing play. Deliberate, because a program that needed organising would be asking you for the one thing you have least of.
- What it does not do is reduce your load. It is not childcare, it is not money, and it is not a partner doing their share.
- Anybody selling you calm as a substitute for practical help is selling you something. This sits alongside your doctor, a counsellor and whatever real support you can get.
How the Mindshift Method fits
The Mindshift Method app can be used alongside appropriate medical, psychological or therapeutic care where required.
Naming it properly
Which of These Sounds Most Like What You’re Experiencing?
Nine common experiences, in plain language. They are not all the same thing, and they do not all need the same kind of support. Here is how to tell the difference, including where this pathway may help and where another form of support should come first.
- Green · what the sessions are built around
- Amber · may help with part of it, alongside other care
- Red · not the right tool, start elsewhere
-
Guilt that does not switch off
Guilty for working, guilty for resting, guilty for the bedtime you held firm on, guilty for wanting an hour that belongs to you. It runs whatever you do, which is the giveaway that it is not about the thing you just did.
The program is designed to support the recurring stress, worry and automatic response patterns around this experience, and there is a session for it specifically.
-
Carrying the whole mental load
The appointments, the money, the uniforms, the worry, the thing nobody else has noticed needs doing. Not the tasks so much as the fact that the remembering never hands over to anyone.
Built for the weight of it. It will not reduce the list, and anybody promising that is not being straight with you.
-
Night time overthinking
The house goes quiet and your mind picks that exact moment to run through everything. Getting to sleep is the problem, or getting back to sleep at two after you have already woken once.
One of the clearest fits on the program. If the nights are the worst part by a distance, the Sleep and Recovery program goes deeper and is in the same subscription.
-
Not trusting your own judgement any more
Second guessing decisions you would once have made without thinking. Common after somebody spent a long time making you doubt yourself, and it outlasts the relationship by years.
Learning to Trust Yourself Again and Rebuilding Self-Worth After Being Let Down are both aimed here.
-
Running on empty
Flat rather than sad. Getting through the day and having nothing left for the parts of it you would actually like to enjoy.
See your doctor before you put this down to stress. Thyroid problems, low iron, sleep disorders and depression all look like this and all need treating properly. Once that is ruled out, the stress side is what this helps with.
-
Grief for the life you thought you would have
Not everybody in this position separated from somebody. Some were widowed, some were never partnered, some left something that was not safe. What is shared is mourning a version of the future that is not coming.
The program helps with the weight of it. Grief has its own timeline that nobody gets to hurry, and it deserves a person as well.
-
Conflict with their other parent
The ongoing negotiation with somebody you are no longer with, about the people you both love most, usually conducted by text at the worst possible moment.
Your side of it is what the sessions help with, and it is worth taking seriously: ongoing conflict between parents is one of the larger risks to how children adjust, and keeping it child focused is protective.
-
Your children struggling
Regression, clinginess, anger, withdrawal, or trouble at school after a family changes shape.
Prolonged sadness, severe anxiety, aggression or any sign of self harm needs a child therapist, and it needs one now. This program is for you. Steadying you genuinely helps them, and it is not treatment for a child who is struggling.
-
A situation that is not safe
Control over money or movement, intimidation, being frightened of somebody's reaction, or violence.
None of this is a pattern of yours to fix and no audio session is the answer. 1800RESPECT is on 1800 737 732, free, confidential and open all day and all night.
Two things worth saying plainly. If you are struggling to keep going, Lifeline is on 13 11 14 and the Suicide Call Back Service is on 1300 659 467, both free and both open all night. And if your baby is small and you have not felt like yourself since they arrived, that is worth raising with your GP or child health nurse rather than filing under tired, because it is common, it is treatable, and it is not the same thing as this.
You are allowed to be on your own list. Twenty minutes is not selfish.

Clearing it up
What this is not
Worth being straight about, because it gets confused with all four.
-
Not a way to cope with more
The point is not to make you able to absorb an unreasonable load without complaining. If your situation needs more hands, more money or more help, it needs those things, and no recording is a substitute for any of them.
-
Not parenting advice
Nobody tells you how to raise your children, and there is nothing in here about routines, screens or discipline. It helps you, on the basis that you are the part of this that has been left out.
-
Not talk therapy
There is no session where you explain your situation to anyone. The Mindshift Method does not require you to explain or retell your story during the audio session. The sessions focus on present-day patterns and responses, which is why it suits people who are too tired to talk.
-
Not the right tool if you are not safe
If there is control, intimidation or violence in the picture, none of this is yours to fix and calm is not what you need first. 1800RESPECT is on 1800 737 732, free and open all day and all night.
This will not suit everyone
Here is who it tends to work for, and who should look elsewhere first.
It tends to suit you if
- The guilt runs whatever you do, and you cannot argue it down
- You lie awake replaying the day once the house is finally quiet
- You have stopped trusting your own judgement since being let down
- You want something that costs you 20 minutes and no organising
- You would rather not go back over any of it to move forward
It probably does not suit you if
- What you actually need is practical help, and this would delay asking
- You are looking for parenting advice or a routine to follow
- You want the whole story explored rather than the response changed
- You cannot find about 20 minutes most days, even in the car
- You are in a situation that is not safe, or you are in crisis
If there is control, intimidation or violence in your situation, please start with 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 rather than with an app. And if things are bad right now, in Australia Lifeline is on 13 11 14 and the Suicide Call Back Service is on 1300 659 467, all free and all open all night. This work is designed for the long grind, not for an emergency.
The man behind the MindShift Method
One voice, every session in the library
Rob Edmonds
Strategic Psychotherapist
Accredited practitioner LIC#110226 · ISPA accredited · ASCH member
Rob was nineteen and could not speak in front of a room. Not nervous, genuinely unable, and it was costing him exams. He tried something he had run out of reasons not to try, and a few sessions sorted it. It worked in a way that annoyed him slightly, because it should not have been that straightforward. That quietly shaped everything after it.
He trained at the Institute of Applied Psychology in Sydney and went on to create Cognitive Pattern Reprogramming, part of the MindShift Method. He writes and voices every session in the library himself, and still sees clients one to one.
Single Mum’s Reset FAQs
I genuinely do not have twenty minutes. What then?
If twenty minutes is not there, use the ten minute session instead, and use it in the car in the pick up line rather than trying to carve out something at home that will get interrupted. It works just as well sitting in a driver's seat with your eyes shut.
Is this just telling me to relax when what I need is help?
This is not a suggestion that you relax, and if it were it would deserve the eye roll. It does not reduce your load and it is not a substitute for childcare, money or somebody doing their share. What it helps with is the guilt and the replaying, which are costing you on top of the load and which nobody else is going to sort out for you.
Will the kids notice me doing this?
The kids will only notice if you tell them. It is headphones and a phone, and there is nothing to sign up for during the free week, so there is no email trail and nothing arrives in the post.
What if I fall asleep during it?
Falling asleep during a session means you needed the sleep. It is not wasted, and with an evening session drifting off is a perfectly reasonable outcome rather than a failure. Have another go the next day.
Do I have to talk about what happened?
You never have to talk about what happened, and that is deliberate. Nothing is asked of you and nothing gets relived. You never have to describe your situation, to us or to anybody, which is usually the part that has kept people from starting anything at all.
I am not sure I count as a single mum. Does this still fit?
If you are the one carrying it, it fits. Plenty of people using this have a partner who is away, unwell or simply not doing much of it. The sessions are about the load and the guilt, not about your relationship status on a form.
Can I use this while I am seeing a counsellor?
The Mindshift Method can be used while you are seeing a counsellor. It sits alongside other care, and it is a self help support tool rather than a substitute for professional care. If you are working with someone, keep working with them and tell them you are doing this.
What happens after the free week?
Nothing happens automatically after the free week. There is no credit card taken to start, so there is nothing to cancel if you decide it is not for you. If you do carry on, one subscription opens every pathway in the library rather than just this one.
What if I try it and nothing shifts?
Nothing shifting is a real possibility and we are not going to pretend otherwise. This pathway is built around 21 days of listening, one session a day. Some people notice changes quickly while others find change develops more gradually. Individual experiences vary, and we cannot tell you in advance which you will be. There is a 30 day money back guarantee from your first payment for exactly that reason.
